Great place to camp and relax! Sky ,Gina, Kim and Chris are wonderful fun people to be around.Love them all, if you have horses great place to ride if not just sit back and enjoy life.

There are 38 campsites. 9 of them have 50 Amp hookups, 29 have 30 Amp, and 17 have sewerage. They also have 6 heated and cooled cabins, 3 of which can sleep 6 people, 1 sleeps 4, 1 sleeps 3, and 1 sleeps 2. Linens, bedding and towels are provided. The Outdoor Cooking Pavilion seats 96 and has 2 Kitchens, 3 smokers and 3 grills. There are Potluck dinners every Saturday night at 6:30 PM and afterward, there's music, karaoke and dancing in their "Ole Time Saloon". For guests not into music, there's the community fire-pit or individual fire-pits are available through the office. The "Trading Post" (office) has toothpaste, mouthwash, saline, charcoal, shaving cream, etc., etc., etc.

It's a family friendly location where group rides take place (or ride on your own), the kids can safely play when they're not riding, Saturday night pot luck supper in the pavilion (that has a double outdoor kitchen), singing and dancing in the "saloon" ... I could go on and on, but you get the picture. It's just plain FUN with lots of good folks from all over

Love this place! Great people and hospitality!

If you are a horse owner who enjoys the company of and riding with other horse owners in the beautiful Kisatchie National Forest, then Rustic Sky Horse Camp is the place for you. The owners are themselves experienced horse owners and riders, so they know what horse lovers want and need in a trail riding location. Thankfully, they require proof of Coggins, so make sure you bring yours when you're packing up all your horse's stuff.

Be sure to call ahead to make your reservations.

The Rustic Sky Horse Camp is at Melder, Louisiana, about 25 miles southwest of Alexandria. It adjoins the Kisatchie National Forest, which has about 88 miles of horseback riding trails as well as roads, cross-country riding and multi-use trails. Visitors sometimes see wild horses and/or wild turkeys while trail riding. Guests can usually expect one or more volunteer Trail Bosses to be available, if desired. Trails are friendly and will accommodate most riders. Most of them ride their horses barefoot. If a ride is planned with a Trail Boss, he can manage the ride based upon the riders; whether it's fast, slow, hills, etc., as well as the length of the ride.
